NEIGHBOURHOOD WATCH ALERT

URGENT REPORT OF SCAM

A resident in the East Riding of Yorkshire has fallen foul of the following scam.

Somebody called supposedly from East Riding of Yorkshire Council and informed the resident that they were due a Council tax refund of £180.  They asked the resident to provide their bank details in order to be able to reimburse them.

Unfortunately they then deducted £180 from the resident’s bank account.

East Riding of Yorkshire Council would not call residents and ask for bank details.  If you receive a similar call, do not give your bank details. Also please contact Action Fraud on 0300 123 2040 giving them as much information as possible including the caller display number.
