New Community Bus Service

You will have seen recent publicity about the new community bus service serving Newbald and other local villages. The scheme is being run by Beverley Community Lift, a charitable organisation which provides transport for the elderly, disabled, those with mobility problems and rurally isolated people. This was a Parish Council initiative with Elsie Huntington, our former Parish Transport Champion, working with Sancton Parish Council and funded by a grant from the Sober Hill Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund.

The original scheme ran for a few months on a fortnightly basis. In that time there were only 5 runs and just 4 people booked to use the service.

Our new Parish Transport Champion, Cllr. John Howard, met with his counterpart at Sancton Parish Council and Community Lift administrators and they decided to discontinue the service at the end of July due to the poor uptake. However, there is grant money left and the Parish Council is keen to try an alternative service to benefit Newbald residents.

Holme-on-Spalding-Moor has a successful service which takes passengers to a pre-arranged destination once a month. If the destination is within 20 miles a charge of £6.00 is levied and beyond 20 miles, £7.00. This service has run regularly for a number of years. The organisers are now offering a similar service for Newbald, Hotham and Sancton.

The following destinations have been agreed, as they have been popular with current users of the Holme-on-Spalding-Moor service. Alternative destinations could be proposed by those who are registered.

3/09/19  –  Gilberdyke

1/10/19  –  Sigglesthorne Garden Centre

29/10/19  –  Driffield

26/11/19  –  York for Christmas shopping.

Anyone who would like to use the service first needs to complete a registration form. (This is a one time only requirement). Copies of the form are available to download and print here. Once completed, please either scan and email the form to or post it to Beverley Community Lift, 25 Corporation Rd, Beverley HU17 9HG. If you need a physical copy of the form, please call Beverley Community Lift on 01482 868082.

**Note that you can still use this service even if you are physically fit, the only stipulation is that you must first complete a form.**

Prior to a trip those registered must book a place and the trip will only proceed if a minimum of 7 people have booked. The maximum passengers per trip is 13. Places can be booked by calling Beverley Community Lift on 01482 868082.

**Please note if you intend to travel on the service, you need to let Beverley Community Lift know by midday on the day before. **

The success of this new proposal will be examined after the last trip to decide if the service should continue. If you need any further information, please contact Cllr. John Howard on 01430 828932.

The service will only run on request in order to make sure that the funding available for the service lasts as long as possible.

If you know someone who could benefit from this service but who may not be aware of it or struggle to apply, we would be very grateful if you could let them know and help them with the form (if necessary).
